THIS WEEK: New upcoming shows posted, new professional opportunities posted, news in dance.



Rehearsals Cancelled.  In support of Idan Cohen, our upcoming guest artist in residence, rehearsals that coincide with the Idan Cohen Lecture/ Demonstration on Tuesday, February 26, and the Mad Siren performance on Friday, March 1, will be cancelled. Attendance is mandatory for BFA students.

Rutgers University Dance Marathon. Registration for RUDM is open, with limited space available for participation. Information

Rutgers Cinema.  The Rutgers Cinema has opened on Livingston Campus!

MARCH 6 thru 10 – SPRING DANCE CONCERT.  Student choreography from BFA Dance Majors.  Facebook Event

APRIL 18 thru 21 – BFA SENIOR DANCE CONCERT.  Senior BFA students present their choreography.  Facebook Event

APRIL 26-28, MAY 3-5 – DANCEPLUS SPRING 2013.  New work from guest artists Stefanie Batten Bland and Laura Peterson. New work from faculty Paulette Sears, Keith Thompson and Frederick Curry.  Facebook Event


FEBRUARY 15 – Lustig Dance Theatre.  The program includes Oblivion, a sultry yet playful ballet inspired by Argentinian tango; Six Pianos, a dance with dramatic shifts in energy set to the music of Liszt; and Shake Down the Stars, a lighthearted piece calling on the jazzy tones of the ’40s. RVCC, 8pm. Information, call 908-725-3420

FEBRUARY 24 – JERSEY MOVES!  The first installment of this season’s celebration of dance in the Garden State includes performances by SoulJerz Dance Entertainment, Lustig Dance Theatre, New Jersey Ballet, Claire Porter, 10 Hairy Legs, and Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company. Information

MARCH 2 – Lustig Dance Theatre.  The premiere of Jungala, which uses a fusion of classical Indian dance and contemporary ballet to tell stories from Kipling’s The Jungle Book. Tickets

MARCH 6 – $5 Paul Taylor Tickets.  The Paul Taylor Dance Company is offering $5 tickets to the March 6 performance of Brandenburgs and Speaking in Tongues in four separate pop-up shops across Manhattan. New York Times article

MARCH 9 & 10, 16 & 17 – Peridance Contemporary Dance Company Spring Season 2013.  Presenting the works of Igal Perry, Dwight Rhoden, Enzo Celli, Sidra Bell, and Ohad Naharin. Student tickets $20. Information, tickets

APRIL 27 – JERSEY MOVES!  The second part of this year’s festival brings a diverse program of works from Timothy Kochka with The Davis Academy, Bani Ray, Nimbus Dance Works, New Jersey Tap Ensemble, Dance Tactics, and American Repertory Ballet. Information
